Rachel’s Story...
“Mum wants to remain independent in her own home, but since she stopped driving, she doesn’t go shopping unless I take her out on my regular visits.
Mum goes online to have a basic supermarket order delivered, but the little touches that make a meal special tend not to come with ready-meals!
I live over 100 miles away, and Mum doesn’t want to uproot herself to move nearer to me or feel like a burden on neighbours or friends so what could we do?
Finding Good Food @Home has been a godsend to us both!
Mum and Jane arranged a schedule and menus that that suited them, cooking Mum’s lunches from scratch five days a week.
She uses ordinary ingredients from the Supermarket delivery but with Mum’s preferences in mind, and always beautifully presented (which has done wonders for Mum’s tiny appetite.) There’s always a tasty soup or sandwich prepared for her to have for her supper, and usually a little treat to enjoy over the weekend. If there’s something special that Mum wants, Jane will go and get it, Mum’s even started eating desserts again, which is a miracle in itself!
I no longer worry that Mum isn’t getting the proper, home-cooked food that she needs, and I know that should Jane have any concerns about Mum’s wellbeing, she will have a quiet word with me, keeping Mum’s dignity and independence intact.
Jane’s also gone above and beyond just cooking: she’s collected prescriptions, taken Mum to GP appointments, to her favourite Farm Shop and even arranged for the window-cleaners to come and clear a blocked gutter!
All this, and a little companionship for Mum every day gives me so much peace of mind.”
